Philadelphia Phillies slam door on New York Mets
The Philadelphia Phillies clawed their way to a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday night behind the arm of starting pitcher Aaron Nola. Nola (9-7, 3.02 ERA) stifled the Mets for seven innings, allowing one earned run and two hits while striking out eight batters in the Phillies' come-from-behind victory.

MLB: Domingo Santana's single helps Milwaukee Brewers stave off Philadelphia Phillies
Domingo Santana hit the tiebreaking single with one out in the top of the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers blew a seven-run lead but snapped a six-game losing streak with a 9-8 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. Ryan Braun returned after missing three games with a sore wrist and drove in four runs for Milwaukee by going 3-for-3 and finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

College basketball: FGCU men lose at La Salle without Marc-Eddy Norelia
PHILADELPHIA – For the fifth time this season, the FGCU men's basketball team was without reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year Marc-Eddy Norelia, and the result was similar to the previous four game. Norelia did not travel with the team for personal reasons Saturday, as La Salle topped FGCU, 84-80.

St. Joseph's rebounds with win over Fordham
NEW YORK - St. Joseph's point guard Shavar Newkirk was twice named the Bronx player of the year by the New York Daily News. Playing in his hometown on Saturday at Fordham, Newkirk scored a career-high 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting, propelling the Hawks to an 82-60 victory. After falling behind Fordham, 7-0, early in the first half and struggling to find their rhythm on offense for the first four minutes, DeAndre' Bembry found Newkirk all alone on a crosscourt pass in the left corner and his three-point shot put the Hawks on the board.

MO'NE DAVIS was looking around her closet in search of her blue-and-maroon Taney Dragons jersey. At first, she, like many of her teammates, had no idea what the John Wanamaker Athletic Award was for.
